Floating Lawns: Georgie Hopton | 20 Bourdon Street

13 October - 13 November 2026

Lyndsey Ingram is delighted to present Floating Lawns, an exhibition of new large-scale collages by Georgie Hopton. These compositions explore the interplay between memory, loss and transformation. For Hopton, the physical act of making, after pivotal changes in her life, became a particularly profound experience of reflection as memories surged and emotions found form in colour, surface and composition.

Inspiration for this series began with a visit to Japan in early 2025, where Hopton was struck by the rigour, beauty and contemplative quality of Japanese aesthetics and artistic culture. Specifically, the Japanese garden ponds became a significant source of inspiration as their still surfaces mirrored reflections that felt both familiar and unexpected. This influence is perhaps most vividly expressed in the large vertical collages, where the compositions are divided into two symmetrical sides that appear to mirror one another. Flowers collide with vibrant patterns and unexpected textures, creating a kaleidoscopic sense of movement and fluidity. The works seem almost to shift before the eye, evoking the surface of a pond as its stillness is disturbed by ripples and movement.

This idea of reflection, both literal and psychological, resonates throughout this new body of work as layers of collage coalesce to create images that hover between recognition and abstraction. Through these new works Hopton transforms profoundly personal experiences into tangible objects, creating space for memory and emotion to be held, reimagined and encountered anew.
