Affinities: David Murphy | 16 Bourdon Street

10 September - 7 October 2026

We are pleased to present Affinities, a solo exhibition of paintings by David Murphy and the artist's first exhibition with the gallery. For this exhibition in the No. 16 space, Murphy has put together an elegant, refined presentation of paintings. These include new panel works from his Long Ending series - where an etching needle is used to ’scratch’ into panels of casein paint and gesso - large modular panelled paintings and a beautiful group of soft focus abstracts. The surfaces of these paintings are remarkable. Almost velvetine in their appearance, they reflect Murphy’s interest in textile language, Minimalism, nature and also the large-scale, ambitious public sculpture projects which run alongside his studio practice.

Murphy creates creates work that are both materially and visually considered. At its essence, his practice brings together the handmade and the industrial, exploring the subtle affinities between nature, science and creativity.
