Sarah Graham’s first show in New York City, presented by the gallery in collaboration with Galerie Maximillian.
The exhibition took place between the 12th and 19th November in a private townhouse gallery on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
Graham conceived a body of work inspired by extraordinary eighteenth century German and Italian didactic papier maché model plants. Made for students learning about botany, the models can be taken apart, thus revealing their construction. Graham has her own collection of these fascinating and surreal models, which sit in her London studio together with skulls, exotic plants, beetles in bell jars, botanical books, and various other natural curiosities - all forming a giant wunderkammer that informs and inspires her work.
